Valandovo

Valandovo, located in southeastern North Macedonia, is a small town set within the fertile Valandovo Valley and surrounded by gentle hills and agricultural landscapes. The town lies at the foot of Mount Plavuš and has developed in an area that has been inhabited since prehistoric and ancient times. Archaeological findings indicate the presence of settlements from different historical periods, including traces of Roman life beneath the modern town. Today, Valandovo combines its long history with the peaceful character of a traditional southern Macedonian community.

The wider region is strongly connected with agriculture, benefiting from a warm climate, many sunny days, and favourable soil conditions. Vineyards, orchards, vegetable production, and other agricultural activities have shaped both the landscape and the everyday life of the local population. Historic churches, archaeological remains, and local traditions provide further insight into the cultural heritage of Valandovo and its surroundings. The town’s position within the Gevgelija-Valandovo basin has also connected it historically with important routes through southeastern North Macedonia.

Valandovo offers visitors a quiet atmosphere and an opportunity to experience a less explored part of the country. The surrounding countryside is characterized by open valleys, cultivated land, hills, and views that reflect the distinctive landscape of southeastern North Macedonia. Local food, agricultural traditions, historic sites, and nearby villages contribute to the authentic character of the area. Its combination of history, rural landscapes, warm climate, and traditional life gives Valandovo a distinctive identity among North Macedonia’s smaller destinations.
